Video Relay Interpreting (VRI) Service update

21 July 2010

Hi everyone.

Here’s a brief update on what is happening with the Video Relay Interpreting (VRI) Service:

VRI DVD’s
We have been distributing DVDs that explain the VRI service. It is accessible in Auslan, voice and subtitles and is FREE. If you want a copy, please let us know and pass on your mail address.

You can also visit our VRI website to see and download the VRI DVD as well - http://www.dhs.vic.gov.au/disability/improving_supports/cultural_and_linguistic_diversity/auslan-video-relay-interpreting-service/video-relay-interpreting-vri-service-dvd

Deaf to Deaf
A reminder that the VRI service network is also available for:
- Deaf club to meet with another Deaf club (eg; VCOD to meet with Ballarat Deaf Club, etc)
- Deaf club to meet with Vicdeaf staff (eg; Gippsland Deaf Club meeting with information team staff)
- Deaf person meeting with Community Worker or ILS Worker

Note: A VRI appointment will take priority if there is a meeting date / time clash.

Information sessions
We have recently been to Geelong and Ballarat and will continue to move around Victoria to present workshops and information on the service.

New VRI locations
New VRI booths are currently being established at Deaf Children Australia / VCOD building in Melbourne, Shepparton, Wodonga, Sale, Mildura and Horsham. Some VRI booths will be set up in outer Melbourne areas too. More details coming soon.

VRI website
All information about the VRI service is available on the website: www.vriservice.com.au

Any news you want to share about your experience with the VRI service or any questions, please let us know.

Regards
