Silence from pollies speaks volumes

RECENT horror stories about the treatment of people with disabilities - particularly by our airlines - remind us of the work that needs to be done to achieve legislative and cultural change in this area.
Paralympian Kurt Fearnley's experience of having to "crawl" to his Jetstar flight and Donna Purcell being refused on Tiger and Qantas flights because of her guide dog, hopefully, will lead to change.
In South Australia, the Commissioner for Social Inclusion, Monsignor David Cappo, has been given a mandate to review disability services here. High time. Let's hope it can reform a system described by some as "soul destroying".
Recent experience also reminded me that deaf and hearing-impaired Australians continue to rate among the bottom of the political priorities.
