Deafblind Studies at Kangan Institute now available

Auslan & Deaf Studies Center at Kangan Institute in conjunction with Able Australia is proud to offer Deafblind Studies.Topics to be covered:
- Deafblindness and its various causes.
- Communication used by people with deafblindness.
- How Auslan differs in the Deafblind community.
- Supporting a Deafblind person.
- Impact of acquired vision loss on a d/Deaf person.
- Differences between the Deaf Community and the Deafblind Community.
- Analysis of the minority status of Deafblind people in the Deaf Community.
- Barriers to working with the deafblind.
- Experience of deafblindness.
- Supporting a Deafblind person in society.

Thursday evenings, 5.30pm – 8.30pm

plus 5 hours of practical placement
No classes: 24 June - 8 July, 26 August & 2 September
Entrance Requirements & Academic Credits
Some proficiency in Auslan would be a distinct advantage.
Those who have successfully completed Certificate III in Auslan or above, will receive an academic credit in VBK869 Understanding Deafblindness and its Implications. Current Diploma students can include these hours in their total elective requirements.
Those without the appropriate academic prerequisites will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.
Expected Course Fee
$449 Current Diploma students
$383 External or Fee Maintenance
$250 Current Certificate IV students
