Deaf Services Queensland takes a new direction

26 July 2010

The Board of Deaf Services Queensland is delighted to announce that Mr Brett Casey has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Having worked with Deaf Services Queensland in various management positions and most recently as acting CEO, Brett brings to the organisation solid business acumen as well as a strong sense of community.

Prior to his employment with Deaf Services Queensland, Brett spent a considerable part of his working life in the Deaf sector, including the Deaf Society of NSW and Deaf Australia.

Brett’s academic achievements include a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Arts, and was recently admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland. With an interest in International, Human Rights and Discrimination Law and having published a number of papers and articles on Deaf topics in academic journals; Brett will oversee the provision of services to the people that matter the most, the deaf and hard of hearing communities. Brett’s credentials in law and human services will enable him to lead Deaf Services Queensland into new service directions and business opportunities.

Bobbie Blackson, Chairperson, comments that “The Board looks forward to watching Deaf Services Queensland grow even stronger in the coming years under Brett’s leadership as we move towards an inclusive community in which deaf and hard of hearing people are empowered as individuals and gain an inherent equal right to basic human services that are afforded to their hearing peers.”
