Barriers to employment
21 July 2010
Hello members,
Deafness Forum is attending a roundtable meeting with government departments in late July.
Please feel free to send me any information about the barriers you face in employment, due to deafness.
1. What are the barriers to employment for people who are Deaf or have a hearing impairment? (might be getting a job in the first place, or keeping a job, or promotion/advancement)
2. Do you have any good stories/positive stories?
3. Have you used any government programs or services to support you, if so, what were your experiences? Eg Workplace Modifications Scheme, Auslan for Employment, specialist government employment services, Employment Assistance Fund etc
4. How might we break down stereotypes and myths that might be a barrier to employment? For example sometimes employers might think that Occupational Health and Safety is an issue.
I look forward to your input to ensure we can provide a voice at this workshop. Your comments by 5pm on 23 July would be appreciated.
Regards
