The Victorian Deaf Society (Vicdeaf) relies heavily on the generous financial support of the private and corporate communities to help maintain and develop its specialist support services to Deaf people at risk. To ensure our services continue and grow, we need to raise $1 million dollars from fundraising each year. This money is used to pay for program maintenance and development, and specialist equipment.
Because deafness is invisible, most of us don’t realise just how many people are affected by it – nor do we realise how being profoundly deaf or having a severe hearing loss impacts on a person’s life.
One of the best ways you can help support the Society and its work is to make a financial tax deductible donation.
$70 will help pay for client interpreting services to enable deaf people to access counselling and crisis support
$120 will pay for a Vicdeaf interpreter to interpret for deaf family members at a funeral for 2 hours
$150 or more will help contribute to the purchase a TTY machine (telephone typewriter) – a vital piece of equipment to enable deaf and hearing people to communicate.
Vicdeaf also urgently requires financial support for the following projects:
Shared Supported Accomodation– 24 hour accommodation support for deaf people with multiple disabilities
Client Services – providing a wide range of services throughout Victoria including counselling, case management, crisis intervention, emergency support and duty work.
Independent Living Skills – offering training to deaf people with multiple disabilities (including Usher Syndrome – a form of deaf blindness).
As well as services for deaf Victorians, Vicdeaf also works with hard of hearing Victorians, through our hearservice. This service provides both audiology and hearing tests (sometimes at reduced rates), as well as rehabilitation and information work for hearing impaired people.
How Vicdeaf has helped improve people’s lives:
“Hello my name is Andrew. I am in my mid forties , I have been a part of the CPP [Community Preparation Program] for the last four years…….I have enjoyed learning cooking, ironing, sewing and household chores with my CPP client workers over the years…..I am very happy to be with CPP. They give me full support.”
“I like living at Luckie St [Community Housing Project ] because the house is new. I have been living here for nearly 3 years. I enjoy having more privacy. I like when staff teach me how to cook and clean.”
It is only through your donation that Vicdeaf can ensure deaf people have equitable access to the specialist services they require - for this we sincerely thank you.
