Booking an Interpreter or Notetaker

How do I book an Interpreter or Notetaker?

Your booking can now be made online (Click Victoria on map) by completing the new booking form and clicking save. Your booking details will automatically be sent to the booking office where our friendly staff will endeavour to find an appropriate interpreter for you. To view the progress of your booking, log-on and check whether your booking has been allocated. Please try and book an interpreter as early as possible as we receive many requests for interpreters every day.

What do I need to know when booking an interpreter?

When booking an interpreter/notetaker you need to think about Occupational Health and Safety. This means that if a booking is over one hour or is quite complicated, two interpreters or notetakers must be used.

The number of interpreters or notetakers needed for a booking depends on what the meeting is about, not just the number of Deaf or hearing people involved. It is important for interpreters and notetakers to work in teams to make sure they do not get tired – mentally and physically – as this could affect the quality of their work.

Educational (school/university/TAFE) interpreters must not work for longer than 25 minutes in succession before swapping with another interpreter. Booking two interpreters who work in tandem is necessary in this situation and ensures the appointment will run smoothly and without any breaks.
