Vicdeaf - Board Members

Mac has served on the Vicdeaf Board for 19 years and has been the Vicdeaf President for four of these. He was appointed in July 1990 and is also a teacher at the Victorian College for the Deaf in St Kilda and is an active member of the Deaf Community. Mac brings a wealth of skills to the Board in areas of Board Experience, Property, Strategy and the Deaf community.

As well as serving as the President of the Vicdeaf Board, Mac is also the Chairperson of the Nominations and Remunerations Committee, and also a member of the Finance and Audit Committee and Planning and Performance Committee.

Adam is a partner in the law firm Herbert Geer Lawyers and has served on the Board for five years- this is his first year as Vice President. Adam was appointed in March 2004 and brings a wealth of skills to the board including Finance, Legal, Investment, Governance and Risk Management.

Adam is also the Chairperson of the Investment Subcommittee and a member of the Finance and Audit Committee.

Therese is the Liaison Principal of the Dept of Education & Early Childhood Development in the Western Metropolitan Region and is also an Honorary Research Fellow at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education in The University of Melbourne. Therese has been on the Vicdeaf Board for eight years (appointed in October 2001) and brings skills including Research/Health/Disability, Strategy, Education and the Deaf community.

Therese is also the Chairperson of the Fundraising and Relationships Committee and a member of the Planning and Performance Committee.

Rebecca is a Business Manager with IBM and has been on the board for three years. She brings a wealth of skills including Legal, Human Resources, IT/Technology and the Deaf community.

Rebecca was appointed in February 2006 and is also a member of the Finance and Audit Committee and the Nominations and Remunerations Committee.

Richard is an Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Surgeon. He provisionally joined the Board in May 2008 and officially appointed at the AGM in October 2008. Richard brings experience in Health/Disability, Business Management and the Hard of Hearing community.

Richard is also a member of the Planning and Performance Committee.

Garry Fowler is a company director and Chartered Accountant. He was a partner and consultant with Ernst & Young until 2005. He rejoined Vicdeaf Board as Treasurer in March 2009 to utilize his financial, risk management and business expertise in service to the community.
Garry is the Treasurer of the Board and the Chairperson of both the Audit and Finance Committee and the Investment Subcommittee. He is also a member of the Nominations and Remunerations Committee.

Sam joined the Vicdeaf board at the start of 2009. With a professional background in law and public relations, he brings extensive experience in marketing, stakeholder engagement, risk management and fundraising to the Board. He has worked extensively with not-for-profit organisations during his career, and is currently the National Partnership Manager at Save the Children.
Sam is also a member of the Fundraising and Relationships Committee.
