  1. What level of Auslan can I learn?

    Vicdeaf offers basic Auslan – Level 1, 2 & 3. Our courses are for people with little or no signing experience. They enable a person to communicate with a deaf person at a basic level. If you are interested in full time study or becoming fluent in Auslan it is best to contact Kangan Batman TAFE or La Trobe University.

  2. What does the beginner’s course involve?

    Vicdeaf teaches basic everyday signs to enable the student to have simple conversation with Deaf people. All courses are taught by qualified teachers and no voices are used in class to create a better and fun learning environment.

  3. How long does it take learn basic Auslan?

    Vicdeaf courses are offered in two ways. They can run over a six week period, one class per week for two hours. Six week courses run once a term, however not during the school holidays.

    The same course is offered in two full days. Two-day courses are run once per term, mostly for two consecutive days, or two Saturdays. See the Vicdeaf website for more information.

  4. Will I receive a certificate for studying Auslan?

    Yes, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for all Auslan courses.

  5. Will this course enable me to begin communicating with other Auslan users?

    Yes definitely, though at a basic level. It’s best to do Level 1, 2 and 3 to gain a better understanding of the language.

  6. Once the course is completed will there be an opportunity to gain some experience signing with other people who can sign?

    We hold a refresher evening at Vicdeaf once a term for past students and teachers to get together and practice. We do this because people don’t usually get the opportunity to use their Auslan skills in everyday life.

  7. What will the course cost?

    $195.00 non-concession
    $170.00 concession
    $110.00 16 years and under

  9. What can Vicdeaf courses offer that others don’t?

    Vicdeaf has been providing Auslan courses since 1982 and has a wonderful qualified team of teachers; furthermore, Vicdeaf only utilises Deaf teachers as they have the best understanding of the language.
